Learn what to say and do according to the Sunnah when experiencing anger.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that anger is ignited by Shaytan. When a man became overcome with rage in his presence, the Prophet ﷺ said: 'I know a word which, if he were to say it, what he feels would leave him: A'udhu billahi minash-shaytanir-rajim (I seek refuge in Allah from Satan, the accursed).'

Meaning and Explanation

This supplication acknowledges that uncontrolled anger is fueled by Shaytan and turns the believer's heart back to Allah, seeking His protection from harmful impulses and sinful reactions.

When to Recite

Immediately upon feeling anger rise within the heart.

How to Recite

Recite it silently or aloud, repeating it until the anger subsides, and combine it with the other Sunnah methods of calming down.

Important Notes

The Sunnah also advises performing wudu (ablution) when angry, sitting down if standing, lying down if sitting, and remaining silent until the anger passes.

Benefits

It calms the heart, redirects focus to Allah, breaks Shaytan's influence, and prevents the believer from saying or doing what they would later regret.
