Dua for Overcoming Anger and Seeking Calmness

Authentic Sunnah supplications and Quranic prayers for controlling anger, restoring emotional calm, and gaining patience.

Anger (Ghadab) is a natural human emotion, but unbridled rage is sparked by Shaytan (Satan) to destroy relationships, cause regret, and lead to sinful behavior. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that the strong person is not the one who overpowers others, but the one who controls themselves when adired. Islam provides powerful supplications and physical Sunnah remedies to quench the fire of anger and restore inner tranquility.

Meaning and Explanation

This fundamental Islamic supplication (Ta'awwudh) seeks immediate divine protection from Satan. Since anger is an ember fueled by Shaytan to cloud judgment, seeking refuge in Allah cuts off Satan's whisperings and cools down emotional fury.

When to Recite

Recite immediately when you feel anger rising, during heated arguments, or whenever you experience feelings of frustration and rage.

How to Recite

Say it aloud or silently with conviction, pause immediately, stop speaking, change your physical posture (sit if standing, lie down if sitting), and perform Wudu (ablution) with cool water if needed.

Important Notes

Reported in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim. The Prophet ﷺ recommended three practical Sunnah steps for anger: 1) Recite Ta'awwudh, 2) Remain silent, and 3) Perform Wudu as water extinguishes the fire of anger.

Benefits

Instantly reduces emotional tension, restores clarity of thought, prevents impulsive words and actions, and earns divine protection from Satan's traps.
