Duas for Specific Needs

Dua for a Lost Item

A practical Islamic guide for making dua when something valuable is lost.

Losing a valuable item can be stressful. While there is no specific 'magic' phrase in the Sunnah that guarantees the immediate return of an object, a Muslim turns to Allah for help in all matters, seeking His guidance and provision.

Meaning and Explanation

This is the dua of Prophet Musa (AS). It expresses complete dependence upon Allah for any goodness or help he might receive, acknowledging that all solutions come from Him.

When to Recite

Read it while searching for the lost item and during personal supplication.

How to Recite

Search carefully, retrace your steps, and recite this dua with sincerity. You may also ask Allah in your own language for its return.

Important Notes

This is Quran 28:24. There is a traditional dua mentioned by scholars narrated from Ibn Umar (RA), though not a direct Marfu' Hadith of the Prophet ﷺ, which is also commonly used.

Benefits

It redirects the heart from panic to trust in Allah (Tawakkul). It is a comprehensive plea for help that applies to all needs, including finding something lost.

Additional Duas

اللهم راد الضالة وهادي الضالة رد علي ضالتي

Allahumma radda-d-dallati wa hadiya-d-dallati radda 'alayya dallati

O Allah, Returner of the lost and Guide of the strayed, return my lost property to me.
