Duas for the Hereafter

Dua for Protection from Hellfire

Authentic supplications for seeking Allah's protection from the Fire and punishment in the Hereafter.

Seeking refuge from Hellfire (Jahannam) is a constant practice of the believers. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ emphasized that we should ask Allah for protection from the Fire frequently. This comprehensive Quranic prayer asks for the best of both worlds and safety from the ultimate punishment.

Meaning and Explanation

This dua asks Allah to grant us 'Hasanah' (all that is good and beneficial) in this life and the next, with the specific plea to be shielded from the torment of the Fire.

When to Recite

In every Salah, after the morning (Fajr) and evening (Maghrib) prayers, and during personal supplications.

How to Recite

Recite it with sincere fear of Allah's justice and hope in His mercy. Repenting from sins (Istighfar) is the best companion to this dua.

Important Notes

This is Quran 2:201. Another recommended practice is to say 'Allahumma ajirni minan-nar' (O Allah, protect me from the Fire) seven times after Fajr and Maghrib.

Benefits

It was the most frequent supplication of the Prophet ﷺ. It provides a balanced approach to life, seeking success here and eternal safety there.

Additional Duas

رَبَّنَا اصْرِفْ عَنَّا عَذَابَ جَهَنَّمَ إِنَّ عَذَابَهَا كَانَ غَرَامًا

Rabbana-srif 'anna 'adhaba jahannama inna 'adhabaha kana gharama

Our Lord, avert from us the punishment of Hell. Indeed, its punishment is ever adhering.
