Dua After Prayer | Authentic Supplications After Salah

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught several authentic supplications and forms of dhikr immediately after concluding the obligatory prayer (salah). One of the primary sunnah acts is seeking Allah's forgiveness three times followed by praising His peace and majesty.

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ، أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ، أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ. اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ السَّلاَمُ وَمِنْكَ السَّلاَمُ، تَبَارَكْتَ ذَا الْجَلاَلِ وَالإِكْرَامِ

Transliteration

Astaghfirullah, Astaghfirullah, Astaghfirullah. Allahumma antas-salamu wa minkas-salam, tabarakta ya dhal-jalali wal-ikram.

Translation

I seek forgiveness from Allah, I seek forgiveness from Allah, I seek forgiveness from Allah. O Allah, You are Peace and from You comes peace. Blessed are You, O Owner of Majesty and Honor.

Meaning and Explanation

Seeking forgiveness right after worship acknowledges human shortcomings in prayer, while declaring Allah as the source of peace reaffirms absolute reliance upon Him.

When to Recite

Immediately after giving the Taslim (peace greetings) to conclude the obligatory prayer.

How to Recite

Recite quietly to yourself individually after completing the fard prayer.

Important Notes

Post-prayer remembrance includes several established supplications. It is recommended to follow this with Ayatul Kursi, Tasbeeh Fatimah, and other authentic adhkar.

Additional Duas

اللَّهُمَّ أَعِنِّي عَلَى ذِكْرِكَ وَشُكْرِكَ وَحُسْنِ عِبَادَتِكَ

Allahumma a'inni 'ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni 'ibadatik.

O Allah, help me to remember You, to thank You, and to worship You in the best manner.

لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadir.

There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, alone, without partner. To Him belongs sovereignty and praise, and He has power over all things.
