The Islamic lunar calendar begins with the sighting of the new moon. The Prophet ﷺ taught us to welcome each new lunar month with supplication, asking Allah for safety, peace, and increased faith.
Allahumma ahillahu 'alayna bil-amni wal-iman, was-salamati wal-Islam, Rabbi wa Rabbukallah.
O Allah, make this crescent appear upon us with security and faith, safety and Islam. My Lord and your Lord is Allah.
