Dua for a Soft Heart

A Quranic reminder about humility and softness of heart through the remembrance of Allah.

In Islam, a 'hard heart' is one that is disconnected from the remembrance of Allah and indifferent to the suffering of others. A soft heart, characterized by 'Khushu' (humility) and 'Rahmah' (mercy), is a sign of true faith. The Quran calls upon believers to regularly check their hearts and ensure they remain tender and responsive to divine revelation.

Meaning and Explanation

This verse from Surah Al-Hadid is a powerful rhetorical question from Allah, urging the believers to soften their hearts through His remembrance and the truth He has revealed, rather than becoming like those whose hearts hardened over time.

When to Recite

During Quran recitation, when feeling a lack of focus in Salah, or when noticing signs of arrogance or apathy in oneself.

How to Recite

Reflect on the verse with a sense of urgency. Ask Allah: 'O Allah, protect me from a heart that does not feel humble.'

Important Notes

This is Quran 57:16. Beyond dua, the Prophet ﷺ suggested that helping the needy and showing kindness to orphans are practical ways to soften a hard heart.

Benefits

It encourages self-awareness, prevents spiritual stagnation, and helps the believer achieve a state of presence and focus during worship.
