Duas for Rain and Weather

Dua for Drought

Islamic guidance and supplications for seeking rain during drought.

Drought is a severe trial that affects all living beings. In Islam, when the rain is withheld, believers are encouraged to turn to Allah with humility, repentance (Istighfar), and sincere supplication. The Prophet ﷺ taught us to ask Allah directly for relief and also established a special congregational prayer for rain known as Salat al-Istisqa.

Meaning and Explanation

This is an urgent plea asking Allah to intervene and send down the life-giving water needed to sustain plants, animals, and humans during a period of extreme dry weather.

When to Recite

During times of serious water shortage, dry spells, or whenever the lack of rain causes hardship.

How to Recite

Recite it with a heart full of hope and humility. It is often repeated three times, as the Prophet ﷺ did during the Friday sermon when a companion complained of drought.

Important Notes

This wording is reported in Sahih al-Bukhari. Repentance (Istighfar) is considered a prerequisite for the acceptance of this dua, as mentioned in Surah Nuh.

Benefits

Reciting this dua manifests our total dependence on Allah as the Provider. It is a Sunnah that brings the community together in humility and hope for Allah's mercy.

Additional Duas

اللَّهُمَّ اسْقِنَا غَيْثًا مُغِيثًا مَرِيئًا مَرِيعًا

Allahummas-qina ghaythan mugheethan maree'an maree'an

O Allah, bless us with rain that is abundant, widespread, and beneficial.
