Dua for the Prophet's Intercession – Authentic Supplication

Among the established supplications connected with the Prophet ﷺ is the dua after hearing the call to prayer (Adhan). The Prophet ﷺ mentioned that whoever recites this after the Adhan will be granted his intercession on the Day of Resurrection.

اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ هَذِهِ الدَّعْوَةِ التَّامَّةِ وَالصَّلَاةِ الْقَائِمَةِ آتِ مُحَمَّدًا الْوَسِيلَةَ وَالْفَضِيلَةَ وَابْعَثْهُ مَقَامًا مَحْمُودًا الَّذِي وَعَدْتَهُ

Transliteration

Allahumma Rabba hadhihid-dawatit-tammati was-salatil-qaimati ati Muhammadan al-wasilata wal-fadilah wabath-hu maqaman mahmudan alladhi waadtah.

Translation

O Allah, Lord of this perfect call and established prayer, grant Muhammad the means and virtue and raise him to the Praised Station that You promised him.

Meaning and Explanation

This supplication asks Allah to grant the Prophet ﷺ 'al-Wasilah' (the highest station in Paradise), excellence, and the 'Maqam Mahmud' (the Praised Station of intercession) promised in the Quran.

When to Recite

Recite it immediately after the Adhan ends and after sending blessings (Salawat) upon the Prophet ﷺ.

How to Recite

Listen to the Adhan, repeat the words of the Mu'adhin, send blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ, then recite this supplication.

Important Notes

The dua is directed to Allah alone. We ask Allah to grant the Prophet ﷺ these ranks; we do not pray directly to the Prophet ﷺ.

Benefits

According to the Hadith in Sahih al-Bukhari, the Prophet ﷺ's intercession becomes guaranteed for the one who recites this sincerely after the Adhan.
