Prophet Yusuf (AS) made this dua at the height of his success in Egypt, teaching us that the ultimate goal is not worldly power, but a righteous ending in a state of submission to Allah.
رَبِّ قَدْ آتَيْتَنِي مِنَ الْمُلْكِ وَعَلَّمْتَنِي مِنْ تَأْوِيلِ الْأَحَادِيثِ ۚ فَاطِرَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ أَنْتَ وَلِيِّي فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ ۖ تَوَفَّني مُسْلِمًا وَأَلْحِقْنِي بِالصَّالِحِينَ
Rabbi qad ataytani minal-mulki wa 'allamtani min tawilil-ahadith, fatiras-samawati wal-ard, Anta waliyyi fid-dunya wal-akhirah, tawaffani musliman wa alhiqni bis-saliheen.
My Lord, You have given me sovereignty and taught me the interpretation of events. Creator of the heavens and earth, You are my protector in this world and the Hereafter. Cause me to die as a Muslim and join me with the righteous.
