The Sunnah teaches believers to remain in constant remembrance of Allah (dhikr) throughout their daily routines. When exiting the mosque after prayer, a Muslim transitions from a place of pure worship back into worldly life. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ prescribed a specific supplication for this moment, asking Allah for His bounty (fadl) and seeking divine protection from the distractions and evil whispers of Shaytan.
بِسْمِ اللهِ، وَالصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ، اللَّهُمَّ اعْصِمْنِي مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ
Bismillāhi, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu 'alā rasūlillāh, Allāhumma innī as'aluka min faḍlika, Allāhumma-'ṣimnī minash-shayṭānir-rajīm.
In the name of Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, I ask You for Your bounty. O Allah, protect me from the accursed Shaytan.

Meaning and Explanation
This supplication carries profound spiritual contrast with the dua for entering the mosque. When entering, a believer asks for Allah's mercy ('rahmah') to engage in worship. When leaving, a believer asks for Allah's bounty ('fadl'), which refers to lawful sustenance (halal rizq), beneficial knowledge, righteous deeds, and worldly success. Furthermore, as one re-enters worldly environments where temptation and distractions abound, asking for protection from Shaytan ensures spiritual safeguarding outside the sacred space.
When to Recite
Recite this dua at the precise moment you are stepping out through the exits of the mosque, starting with your left foot.
How to Recite
Step out with your left foot first, send blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ, and recite the supplication attentively with devotion and reliance on Allah.
Important Notes
It is Sunnah to enter the mosque with the right foot first and exit with the left foot first. Ensure you do not block doorways or walkways for other worshipers while reciting.
