Duas for Special Situations

Dua When Receiving Good News

Praise Allah when receiving good news and ask Him to place blessing in it.

Good news is an opportunity to thank Allah. Muslims may respond by praising Allah, making dua and, where appropriate, performing the prostration of gratitude (Sajdah al-Shukr) for a significant blessing.

Meaning and Explanation

The words express absolute gratitude and recognition that Allah is the sustainer of all creation and the source of the good news received.

When to Recite

Immediately after receiving good news or learning about a significant blessing.

How to Recite

Say it with a sincere heart. For very significant news, it is Sunnah to perform a single prostration (Sajdah) to Allah.

Important Notes

While this is a general praise, the Prophet ﷺ also specifically said: 'Alhamdulillahil-ladhi bi-ni'matihi tatimmus-salihat' (Praise be to Allah by whose grace good things are completed).

Benefits

They encourage immediate gratitude rather than taking blessings for granted, which leads to an increase in favors from Allah.

Additional Duas

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي بِنِعْمَتِهِ تَتِمُّ الصَّالِحَاتُ

Alhamdu lillahil-ladhi bi-ni'matihi tatimmus-salihat

Praise be to Allah by whose favor good things are accomplished.
