Duas for Social Relations

Dua for Forgiveness Between People

A Quranic supplication to purify the heart from resentment and seek collective forgiveness.

Forgiving others is a quality of the people of Paradise. Islam emphasizes that holding onto grudges harms the soul and the community. This dua asks Allah to forgive the entire community of believers and, crucially, to remove 'Ghill'—hatred or resentment—from our hearts so that we may forgive one another sincerely.

Meaning and Explanation

The prayer seeks Allah's forgiveness for current and past believers while asking for a heart free of malice. A heart without resentment is one that finds it easy to forgive others for their mistakes.

When to Recite

Recite it when you feel anger toward a fellow Muslim, after Salah, or when you are trying to move past a conflict.

How to Recite

Recite it with the specific intention of letting go of a grievance. Mention the person you are struggling to forgive in your own heart while reciting.

Important Notes

This is Quran 59:10. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Allah does not increase a servant who forgives except in honor' (Sahih Muslim).

Benefits

It brings internal peace, strengthens social bonds, and follows the path of the Prophet ﷺ who was the most forgiving of people. Forgiving others is a means for Allah to forgive us.

Additional Duas

اللَّهُمَّ اعْفُ عَنَّا

Allahum-ma'fu 'anna

O Allah, pardon us.
