Duas for the Hereafter

Dua for a Good End

Supplications for asking Allah to keep you firm in faith and grant a righteous ending.

A person's life is judged by its conclusion. In Islam, passing away in a state of faith and submission to Allah is called 'Husn al-Khatimah' (a good end). This Quranic dua is a powerful means to ask Allah to preserve the light of guidance in our hearts until our final breath.

Meaning and Explanation

The prayer asks Allah for spiritual stability. Guidance is a gift from Him, and since only He controls the hearts, we ask that He never allows us to slip back into misguidance after we have tasted the sweetness of faith.

When to Recite

During every Salah, especially in prostration (Sujud), and in the early morning and evening supplications.

How to Recite

Recite it with a heart full of hope and a healthy fear of losing guidance. Sincerity and consistency are key to a good ending.

Important Notes

This is Quran 3:8. While this is a general prayer for steadfastness, the Prophet ﷺ also taught us to specifically ask for a good end: 'Allahumma inni as’aluka husnal-khatimah.'

Benefits

It provides security for the soul, reminds the believer to remain humble regarding their faith, and seeks the ultimate mercy—dying as a believer.

Additional Duas

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ حُسْنَ الْخَاتِمَةِ

Allahumma inni as'aluka husnal-khatimah

O Allah, I ask You for a good end.
