Duas for Inner Peace

Dua for Removing Sadness

A comprehensive prophetic supplication seeking protection from grief and distress.

Sadness (Hazan) is a natural part of the human experience, but Islam teaches us not to let it consume our spirit. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this comprehensive supplication to seek refuge in Allah from the weights of the past and the anxieties of the future, helping the believer find emotional and mental strength.

Meaning and Explanation

While 'Hamm' refers to worry about the future, 'Hazan' specifically refers to the sadness or grief regarding what has already happened in the past. This dua asks Allah to free the soul from these paralyzing emotions.

When to Recite

During times of grief, after a loss, or as part of the daily morning and evening adhkar (remembrances).

How to Recite

Recite it with focus and vulnerability, acknowledging your need for Allah's comfort. Combine it with the remembrance of Allah's names, such as 'Al-Fattah' (The Opener) and 'Al-Wahhab' (The Bestower).

Important Notes

This is an authentic prophetic supplication reported in Sahih al-Bukhari. Seeking professional counseling or medical help is also encouraged in Islam for persistent clinical depression.

Benefits

It helps heal an aching heart, provides the motivation to move forward, and reinforces the belief that Allah is the ultimate Turner of hearts and Remover of sorrow.

Additional Duas

لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ

La ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntu minaz-zalimin

There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers.
