Duas for the Deceased

Dua for Deceased Father

A Quranic supplication asking Allah to have mercy upon one's father.

A father is a gateway to Paradise. Even after he passes away, the bond of goodness (Birr) continues. A child’s sincere prayers are among the greatest gifts a father can receive in his grave to elevate his status in the Hereafter.

Meaning and Explanation

This dua asks Allah to show mercy to one's parents in recognition of their protection, guidance, and the sacrifices they made during one's upbringing.

When to Recite

Read it regularly after Salah, while visiting his grave, or during times of voluntary supplication.

How to Recite

Recite it with a heart full of gratitude and love, specifically intending it for your father's soul.

Important Notes

This is Quran 17:24. Although the wording is plural (referring to both parents), it is the primary prayer used for an individual parent as well.

Benefits

Reciting this is a fulfillment of a Quranic command and a way for a righteous child to continuously benefit their father after his death.

Additional Duas

اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهُ وَارْحَمْهُ

Allahummaghfir lahu warhamhu

O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him.
