Duas for the Hereafter

Dua for the Book of Deeds

A Quran-based guide for asking Allah for acceptance, forgiveness and success in the Hereafter.

Every human being has a record of deeds (Kitab al-Amal) being written by angels. On the Day of Judgment, this book will be presented. Success is defined as receiving this record in the right hand, leading to an easy accounting. Believers are encouraged to pray for the acceptance of their deeds and for Allah's mercy when their record is opened.

Meaning and Explanation

This dua, recited by Prophet Ibrahim (AS), asks Allah to validate our actions. Only if Allah accepts a deed does it become a source of light and success in our final record.

When to Recite

Read it after any act of worship, at the end of the day, and during personal supplications for the afterlife.

How to Recite

Recite it with a heart that is worried about its shortcomings but hopeful of Allah's grace. Combine it with the specific Prophetic prayer for an easy accounting.

Important Notes

This is Quran 2:127. Receiving the book in the right hand is mentioned in Surah Al-Haqqah (69:19) as the mark of a successful believer.

Benefits

It prevents the fear of deeds being rejected and encourages a mindset of sincerity. It reminds us that our primary audience for every action is Allah.

Additional Duas

اللَّهُمَّ حَاسِبْنِي حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا

Allahumma hasibni hisaban yasira

O Allah, grant me an easy accounting.
