بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ وَالشَّمْسِ وَضُحَاهَا ۝ ١ وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَاهَا ۝ ٢ وَالنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّاهَا ۝ ٣ وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَاهَا ۝ ٤ وَالسَّمَاءِ وَمَا بَنَاهَا ۝ ٥ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَاهَا ۝ ٦ وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّاهَا ۝ ٧ فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَاهَا ۝ ٨ قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَنْ زَكَّاهَا ۝ ٩ وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنْ دَسَّاهَا ۝ ١٠ كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَاهَا ۝ ١١ إِذِ انْبَعَثَ أَشْقَاهَا ۝ ١٢ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ نَاقَةَ اللَّهِ وَسُقْيَاهَا ۝ ١٣ فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُمْ بِذَنْبِهِمْ فَسَوَّاهَا ۝ ١٤ وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَاهَا ۝ ١٥

Translation and Transliteration of Surah Ash Shams

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ وَالشَّمْسِ وَضُحَاهَا ۝ ١

Waalshshamsi waduhaha

By the sun and its brightness

وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَاهَا ۝ ٢

Waalqamari itha talaha

And [by] the moon when it follows it

وَالنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّاهَا ۝ ٣

Waalnnahari itha jallaha

And [by] the day when it displays it

وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَاهَا ۝ ٤

Waallayli itha yaghshaha

And [by] the night when it covers it

وَالسَّمَاءِ وَمَا بَنَاهَا ۝ ٥

Waalssamai wama banaha

And [by] the sky and He who constructed it

وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَاهَا ۝ ٦

Waalardi wama tahaha

And [by] the earth and He who spread it

وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّاهَا ۝ ٧

Wanafsin wama sawwaha

And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it

فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَاهَا ۝ ٨

Faalhamaha fujooraha wataqwaha

And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness,

قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَنْ زَكَّاهَا ۝ ٩

Qad aflaha man zakkaha

He has succeeded who purifies it,

وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنْ دَسَّاهَا ۝ ١٠

Waqad khaba man dassaha

And he has failed who instills it [with corruption].

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَاهَا ۝ ١١

Kaththabat thamoodu bitaghwaha

Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression,

إِذِ انْبَعَثَ أَشْقَاهَا ۝ ١٢

Ithi inbaAAatha ashqaha

When the most wretched of them was sent forth.

فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ نَاقَةَ اللَّهِ وَسُقْيَاهَا ۝ ١٣

Faqala lahum rasoolu Allahi naqata Allahi wasuqyaha

And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink."

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُمْ بِذَنْبِهِمْ فَسَوَّاهَا ۝ ١٤

Fakaththaboohu faAAaqarooha fadamdama AAalayhim rabbuhum bithanbihim fasawwaha

But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them].

وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَاهَا ۝ ١٥

Wala yakhafu AAuqbaha

And He does not fear the consequence thereof.

Surah Ash Shams ( سورة الشمس ) is the 91st Surah of the Quran. It consists of 15 ayah and its categorized in Meccan .

The translation of the Qurʻan into modern languages has always been a difficult issue in Islamic theology. Because Muslims revere the Qurʻan as miraculous and inimitable (iʻjaz al-Qurʻan), they argue that the Qurʻanic text should not be isolated from its true form to another language or written form, at least not without keeping the Arabic text with it. Furthermore, an Arabic word, like a Hebrew or Aramaic word, may have a range of meanings depending on the context – a feature present in all Semitic languages, when compared to English, Latin, and Romance languages – making an accurate translation even more difficult

According to Islamic theology, the Qurʻan is a revelation very specifically in Arabic, and so it should only be recited in Quranic Arabic. Translations into other languages are necessarily the work of humans and so, according to Muslims, no longer possess the uniquely sacred character of the Arabic original. .

The task of translation of the Qurʻan is not an easy one; some native Arab speakers will confirm that some Qurʻanic passages are difficult to understand even in the original Arabic script. A part of this is the innate difficulty of any translation; in Arabic, as in other languages, a single word can have a variety of meanings. There is always an element of human judgement involved in understanding and translating a text. This factor is made more complex by the fact that the usage of words has changed a great deal between classical and modern Arabic. As a result, even Qurʻanic verses which seem perfectly clear to native Arab speakers accustomed to modern vocabulary and usage may not represent the original meaning of the verse.

The original meaning of a Qurʻanic passage will also be dependent on the historical circumstances of the prophet Muhammad's life and early community in which it originated. Investigating that context usually requires a detailed knowledge of hadith and sirah, which are themselves vast and complex texts. This introduces an additional element of uncertainty which cannot be eliminated by any linguistic rules of translation.
