بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ ۝ ١ أَنْ جَاءَهُ الْأَعْمَىٰ ۝ ٢ وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُ يَزَّكَّىٰ ۝ ٣ أَوْ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنْفَعَهُ الذِّكْرَىٰ ۝ ٤ أَمَّا مَنِ اسْتَغْنَىٰ ۝ ٥ فَأَنْتَ لَهُ تَصَدَّىٰ ۝ ٦ وَمَا عَلَيْكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّىٰ ۝ ٧ وَأَمَّا مَنْ جَاءَكَ يَسْعَىٰ ۝ ٨ وَهُوَ يَخْشَىٰ ۝ ٩ فَأَنْتَ عَنْهُ تَلَهَّىٰ ۝ ١٠ كَلَّا إِنَّهَا تَذْكِرَةٌ ۝ ١١ فَمَنْ شَاءَ ذَكَرَهُ ۝ ١٢ فِي صُحُفٍ مُكَرَّمَةٍ ۝ ١٣ مَرْفُوعَةٍ مُطَهَّرَةٍ ۝ ١٤ بِأَيْدِي سَفَرَةٍ ۝ ١٥ كِرَامٍ بَرَرَةٍ ۝ ١٦ قُتِلَ الْإِنْسَانُ مَا أَكْفَرَهُ ۝ ١٧ مِنْ أَيِّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقَهُ ۝ ١٨ مِنْ نُطْفَةٍ خَلَقَهُ فَقَدَّرَهُ ۝ ١٩ ثُمَّ السَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُ ۝ ٢٠ ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُ فَأَقْبَرَهُ ۝ ٢١ ثُمَّ إِذَا شَاءَ أَنْشَرَهُ ۝ ٢٢ كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقْضِ مَا أَمَرَهُ ۝ ٢٣ فَلْيَنْظُرِ الْإِنْسَانُ إِلَىٰ طَعَامِهِ ۝ ٢٤ أَنَّا صَبَبْنَا الْمَاءَ صَبًّا ۝ ٢٥ ثُمَّ شَقَقْنَا الْأَرْضَ شَقًّا ۝ ٢٦ فَأَنْبَتْنَا فِيهَا حَبًّا ۝ ٢٧ وَعِنَبًا وَقَضْبًا ۝ ٢٨ وَزَيْتُونًا وَنَخْلًا ۝ ٢٩ وَحَدَائِقَ غُلْبًا ۝ ٣٠ وَفَاكِهَةً وَأَبًّا ۝ ٣١ مَتَاعًا لَكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَامِكُمْ ۝ ٣٢ فَإِذَا جَاءَتِ الصَّاخَّةُ ۝ ٣٣ يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ الْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ ۝ ٣٤ وَأُمِّهِ وَأَبِيهِ ۝ ٣٥ وَصَاحِبَتِهِ وَبَنِيهِ ۝ ٣٦ لِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مِنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ شَأْنٌ يُغْنِيهِ ۝ ٣٧ وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ مُسْفِرَةٌ ۝ ٣٨ ضَاحِكَةٌ مُسْتَبْشِرَةٌ ۝ ٣٩ وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَيْهَا غَبَرَةٌ ۝ ٤٠ تَرْهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ ۝ ٤١ أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْكَفَرَةُ الْفَجَرَةُ ۝ ٤٢

Translation and Transliteration of Surah Abasa

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ ۝ ١

AAabasa watawalla

The Prophet frowned and turned away

أَنْ جَاءَهُ الْأَعْمَىٰ ۝ ٢

An jaahu alaAAma

Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting].

وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُ يَزَّكَّىٰ ۝ ٣

Wama yudreeka laAAallahu yazzakka

But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified

أَوْ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنْفَعَهُ الذِّكْرَىٰ ۝ ٤

Aw yaththakkaru fatanfaAAahu alththikra

Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him?

أَمَّا مَنِ اسْتَغْنَىٰ ۝ ٥

Amma mani istaghna

As for he who thinks himself without need,

فَأَنْتَ لَهُ تَصَدَّىٰ ۝ ٦

Faanta lahu tasadda

To him you give attention.

وَمَا عَلَيْكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّىٰ ۝ ٧

Wama AAalayka alla yazzakka

And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified.

وَأَمَّا مَنْ جَاءَكَ يَسْعَىٰ ۝ ٨

Waamma man jaaka yasAAa

But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge]

وَهُوَ يَخْشَىٰ ۝ ٩

Wahuwa yakhsha

While he fears [Allah],

فَأَنْتَ عَنْهُ تَلَهَّىٰ ۝ ١٠

Faanta AAanhu talahha

From him you are distracted.

كَلَّا إِنَّهَا تَذْكِرَةٌ ۝ ١١

Kalla innaha tathkiratun

No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder;

فَمَنْ شَاءَ ذَكَرَهُ ۝ ١٢

Faman shaa thakarahu

So whoever wills may remember it.

فِي صُحُفٍ مُكَرَّمَةٍ ۝ ١٣

Fee suhufin mukarramatin

[It is recorded] in honored sheets,

مَرْفُوعَةٍ مُطَهَّرَةٍ ۝ ١٤

MarfooAAatin mutahharatin

Exalted and purified,

بِأَيْدِي سَفَرَةٍ ۝ ١٥

Biaydee safaratin

[Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels,

كِرَامٍ بَرَرَةٍ ۝ ١٦

Kiramin bararatin

Noble and dutiful.

قُتِلَ الْإِنْسَانُ مَا أَكْفَرَهُ ۝ ١٧

Qutila alinsanu ma akfarahu

Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he.

مِنْ أَيِّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقَهُ ۝ ١٨

Min ayyi shayin khalaqahu

From what substance did He create him?

مِنْ نُطْفَةٍ خَلَقَهُ فَقَدَّرَهُ ۝ ١٩

Min nutfatin khalaqahu faqaddarahu

From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him;

ثُمَّ السَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُ ۝ ٢٠

Thumma alssabeela yassarahu

Then He eased the way for him;

ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُ فَأَقْبَرَهُ ۝ ٢١

Thumma amatahu faaqbarahu

Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him.

ثُمَّ إِذَا شَاءَ أَنْشَرَهُ ۝ ٢٢

Thumma itha shaa ansharahu

Then when He wills, He will resurrect him.

كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقْضِ مَا أَمَرَهُ ۝ ٢٣

Kalla lamma yaqdi ma amarahu

No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him.

فَلْيَنْظُرِ الْإِنْسَانُ إِلَىٰ طَعَامِهِ ۝ ٢٤

Falyanthuri alinsanu ila taAAamihi

Then let mankind look at his food -

أَنَّا صَبَبْنَا الْمَاءَ صَبًّا ۝ ٢٥

Anna sababna almaa sabban

How We poured down water in torrents,

ثُمَّ شَقَقْنَا الْأَرْضَ شَقًّا ۝ ٢٦

Thumma shaqaqna alarda shaqqan

Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts],

فَأَنْبَتْنَا فِيهَا حَبًّا ۝ ٢٧

Faanbatna feeha habban

And caused to grow within it grain

وَعِنَبًا وَقَضْبًا ۝ ٢٨

WaAAinaban waqadban

And grapes and herbage

وَزَيْتُونًا وَنَخْلًا ۝ ٢٩

Wazaytoonan wanakhlan

And olive and palm trees

وَحَدَائِقَ غُلْبًا ۝ ٣٠

Wahadaiqa ghulban

And gardens of dense shrubbery

وَفَاكِهَةً وَأَبًّا ۝ ٣١

Wafakihatan waabban

And fruit and grass -

مَتَاعًا لَكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَامِكُمْ ۝ ٣٢

MataAAan lakum walianAAamikum

[As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock.

فَإِذَا جَاءَتِ الصَّاخَّةُ ۝ ٣٣

Faitha jaati alssakhkhatu

But when there comes the Deafening Blast

يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ الْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ ۝ ٣٤

Yawma yafirru almaro min akheehi

On the Day a man will flee from his brother

وَأُمِّهِ وَأَبِيهِ ۝ ٣٥

Waommihi waabeehi

And his mother and his father

وَصَاحِبَتِهِ وَبَنِيهِ ۝ ٣٦

Wasahibatihi wabaneehi

And his wife and his children,

لِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مِنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ شَأْنٌ يُغْنِيهِ ۝ ٣٧

Likulli imriin minhum yawmaithin shanun yughneehi

For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him.

وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ مُسْفِرَةٌ ۝ ٣٨

Wujoohun yawmaithin musfiratun

[Some] faces, that Day, will be bright -

ضَاحِكَةٌ مُسْتَبْشِرَةٌ ۝ ٣٩

Dahikatun mustabshiratun

Laughing, rejoicing at good news.

وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَيْهَا غَبَرَةٌ ۝ ٤٠

Wawujoohun yawmaithin AAalayha ghabaratun

And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust.

تَرْهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ ۝ ٤١

Tarhaquha qataratun

Blackness will cover them.

أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْكَفَرَةُ الْفَجَرَةُ ۝ ٤٢

Olaika humu alkafaratu alfajaratu

Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones.

Surah Abasa. The 80th Surah of the Quran with 42 ayah.

Surah Abasa ( سورة عبس ) is the 80th Surah of the Quran. It consists of 42 ayah and its categorized in Meccan .

The translation of the Qurʻan into modern languages has always been a difficult issue in Islamic theology. Because Muslims revere the Qurʻan as miraculous and inimitable (iʻjaz al-Qurʻan), they argue that the Qurʻanic text should not be isolated from its true form to another language or written form, at least not without keeping the Arabic text with it. Furthermore, an Arabic word, like a Hebrew or Aramaic word, may have a range of meanings depending on the context – a feature present in all Semitic languages, when compared to English, Latin, and Romance languages – making an accurate translation even more difficult

According to Islamic theology, the Qurʻan is a revelation very specifically in Arabic, and so it should only be recited in Quranic Arabic. Translations into other languages are necessarily the work of humans and so, according to Muslims, no longer possess the uniquely sacred character of the Arabic original. .

The task of translation of the Qurʻan is not an easy one; some native Arab speakers will confirm that some Qurʻanic passages are difficult to understand even in the original Arabic script. A part of this is the innate difficulty of any translation; in Arabic, as in other languages, a single word can have a variety of meanings. There is always an element of human judgement involved in understanding and translating a text. This factor is made more complex by the fact that the usage of words has changed a great deal between classical and modern Arabic. As a result, even Qurʻanic verses which seem perfectly clear to native Arab speakers accustomed to modern vocabulary and usage may not represent the original meaning of the verse.

The original meaning of a Qurʻanic passage will also be dependent on the historical circumstances of the prophet Muhammad's life and early community in which it originated. Investigating that context usually requires a detailed knowledge of hadith and sirah, which are themselves vast and complex texts. This introduces an additional element of uncertainty which cannot be eliminated by any linguistic rules of translation.
