Dua for Overcoming Jealousy and Purifying the Heart

A Quranic supplication asking Allah to purify the heart from resentment, envy, and malice toward fellow believers.

Jealousy and envy (Hasad) are destructive spiritual diseases that harm the individual's soul and erode good deeds. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ warned that envy consumes good deeds just as fire consumes wood. In Islam, overcoming jealousy requires purifying the heart (Tazkiyat an-Nafs), praying for others' blessings, and seeking Allah's protection from spiritual corruption.

Meaning and Explanation

This Quranic verse from Surah Al-Hashr asks Allah to cleanse the heart of 'Ghill' (resentment, malice, and jealousy) toward fellow believers. It promotes love, brotherhood, and spiritual purity.

When to Recite

Recite whenever feeling envy or resentment toward someone's success, during daily prayers, in morning and evening Adhkar, or during moments of self-reflection.

How to Recite

Recite sincerely while making a conscious effort to pray for the person you feel envious of (saying 'BarakAllahu feeh') and reflecting on your own blessings with gratitude.

Important Notes

This prayer is from Quran 59:10. To cure jealousy effectively, combine dua with practical actions: compliment the person, give gifts, and ask Allah to increase their blessings.

Benefits

Purifies the heart from envy (Hasad) and hatred, instills peace of mind, fosters genuine love and brotherhood, and protects good deeds from being eroded.

Additional Duas

Rabbana la tuzigh qulubana ba'da idh hadaytana wa hab lana milladunka rahmah, innaka antal-Wahhab.

Our Lord, do not let our hearts deviate after You have guided us, and grant us mercy from You. Indeed, You are the Bestower.
