Duas for Special Situations

Dua When Making a Promise

Learn why Muslims should remember Allah when speaking about future plans and promises.

The Quran teaches believers not to confidently promise a future action without remembering Allah's will. Muslims say InshaAllah to acknowledge that nothing happens without His permission.

Meaning and Explanation

The phrase acknowledges that future events ultimately occur only by Allah's will and power. It shifts the focus from human ego to divine decree.

When to Recite

When promising to do something, discussing future plans, or intending to complete a task.

How to Recite

Say it with a sincere heart, intending to fulfill the promise while submitting the outcome to Allah.

Important Notes

Quran 18:23-24 provides this guidance. Importantly, saying InshaAllah is not a permit to be unreliable; a Muslim must always strive to keep their word.

Benefits

It teaches humility, develops a sense of dependence upon Allah, and reminds the believer that they are not the ultimate controllers of time.

Additional Duas

رَبِّ يَسِّرْ لِي أَمْرِي

Rabbi yassir li amri

My Lord, ease for me my task.
