Dua for Intercession: Seeking the Prophet's ﷺ Shafa'ah

In Islam, intercession (Shafa'ah) belongs entirely to Allah and only occurs by His permission. Believers are encouraged to perform deeds and recite supplications that make them worthy of the Prophet's ﷺ intercession on the Day of Judgment. This Quranic dua asks for the fulfillment of Allah's promises of success and protection from disgrace.

رَبَّنَا وَآتِنَا مَا وَعَدتَّنَا عَلَىٰ رُسُلِكَ وَلَا تُخْزِنَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ۗ إِنَّكَ لَا تُخْلِفُ الْمِيعَادَ

Transliteration

Rabbana wa atina ma wa'adtana 'ala rusulika wa la tukhzina yawmal-qiyamah, innaka la tukhliful-mi'ad.

Translation

Our Lord, grant us what You promised us through Your messengers and do not disgrace us on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed, You never fail in Your promise.

Meaning and Explanation

This prayer asks Allah to grant the believers the honor and success He promised through the Prophets, which includes safety from the Fire and the privilege of intercession, while pleading to be saved from public humiliation on the Final Day.

When to Recite

How to Recite

Recite it with a heart that solely relies on Allah's grace. Remember that intercession is asked from Allah (e.g., 'O Allah, grant me his intercession') rather than addressing the created being directly.
