Duas for the Deceased

Dua for Deceased Mother

A Quranic supplication asking Allah to have mercy upon one's mother.

The bond with a mother is sacred in Islam. After her passing, the best way to honor her and show gratitude is through sincere prayer. A child's dua can be a source of light and elevated status for a mother in the hereafter.

Meaning and Explanation

This dua asks Allah to envelop one's parents in His infinite mercy as a recompense for the mercy, love, and protection they provided during childhood.

When to Recite

Recite it during your daily prayers (Salah), especially in Sujud, after Tashahhud, or at any time you feel her absence.

How to Recite

Recite it with focus and sincerity. While the Arabic dual form 'huma' refers to both parents, you can intend it specifically for your mother or recite it for both.

Important Notes

This is Quran 17:24. The Prophet ﷺ said that the best thing a person leaves behind is a righteous child who prays for them.

Benefits

It is a Quranic command to recite this prayer. For a deceased mother, it serves as a continuous act of righteousness from her child, which reaches her in the grave.

Additional Duas

اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهَا وَارْحَمْهَا

Allahummaghfir laha warhamha

O Allah, forgive her and have mercy on her.
