Let us go through the steps on how to pray the Janazah (funeral) prayer. Death is inevitable, and after our passing, the Janazah prayer is a communal duty known as Fard Kifayah. If performed by some members of the community, the obligation is lifted. Let's go through the steps:
1. Takbir and Recitation:
- After the first Takbir, say "Allahu Akbar" and raise your hands, placing the right hand over the left on your chest.
- Recite Surah Al-Fatiha silently, followed by any other Surah.
2. Second Takbir:
- After the second Takbir, send salutations upon Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), just as in regular prayers.
3. Third Takbir:
- After the third Takbir, make a sincere supplication for the deceased. You can use Arabic or your own language. Follow the example of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
اللهُـمِّ اغْفِـرْ لَهُ وَارْحَمْـه ، وَعافِهِ وَاعْفُ عَنْـه ، وَأَكْـرِمْ نُزُلَـه ، وَوَسِّـعْ مُدْخَـلَه ، وَاغْسِلْـهُ بِالْمـاءِ وَالثَّـلْجِ وَالْبَـرَدْ ، وَنَقِّـهِ مِنَ الْخطـايا كَما نَـقّيْتَ الـثَّوْبُ الأَبْيَـضُ مِنَ الدَّنَـسْ ، وَأَبْـدِلْهُ داراً خَـيْراً مِنْ دارِه ، وَأَهْلاً خَـيْراً مِنْ أَهْلِـه ، وَزَوْجَـاً خَـيْراً مِنْ زَوْجِه، وَأَدْخِـلْهُ الْجَـنَّة ، وَأَعِـذْهُ مِنْ عَذابِ القَـبْر وَعَذابِ النّـار
4. Fourth Takbir:
- After the fourth Takbir, conclude the prayer by turning your head to the right, saying "Assalamu Alaikum" to end the Janazah prayer.
Additional Note:
- Attending the funeral procession and offering the Janazah prayer carries a significant reward. The Prophet (peace be upon him) mentioned that those who accompany the funeral procession until burial receive a reward like two huge mountains.
