Being in debt can be a heavy burden. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught a specific prayer to Ali (RA) to seek Allah's help in repaying loans, emphasizing that even if the debt is as large as a mountain, Allah will provide a way.
اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ
Allahummak-fini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadhlika 'amman siwak.
O Allah, suffice me with what You have made lawful instead of what You have made unlawful, and make me independent by Your grace from all besides You.
Hadith — Sunan Abi Dawud — Hadith 1555
Authenticity: Prophetic supplication concerning debt
Meaning and Explanation
This prayer is a request for two things: to be satisfied with halal earnings so one never turns to haram, and to be granted enough wealth so one never needs to ask people for help.
When to Recite
During personal dua, after prayers, and in the morning/evening Adhkar.
How to Recite
Recite it sincerely with the firm intention to repay your creditors as soon as possible.
Important Notes
Avoid interest-based (Riba) loans, as they remove the blessing from your wealth. Combine dua with hard work and budgeting.
Benefits
Helps in attracting barakah (blessings) to wealth, settles debts faster, and builds spiritual independence.
