Duas for the Deceased

Dua for a Deceased Child

A Quranic supplication asking Allah for mercy and forgiveness for deceased believers.

Losing a child is one of the most difficult trials a human can endure. In Islam, children who pass away before reaching puberty are considered 'birds of Paradise' and intercessors for their parents. Turning to Allah through dua helps find patience (Sabr) and hope for a reunion in the Hereafter.

Meaning and Explanation

This dua asks Allah to grant forgiveness to the believers who have passed away before us, acknowledging our bond of faith that continues beyond death.

When to Recite

Read it during personal supplications, after Salah, or whenever the heart feels the weight of grief.

How to Recite

Recite it with a heart seeking Allah's pleasure. For a young child, combine it with the specific Sunnah supplication for 'Faratan' (an intercessor).

Important Notes

This is Quran 59:10. While this is a general prayer, parents are also encouraged to say 'Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un' (Indeed we belong to Allah and to Him we return).

Benefits

Reciting this provides spiritual solace and reminds the bereaved that their child has returned to the Creator. It is a means of seeking reward for the parents' patience.

Additional Duas

اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ لَنَا فَرَطًا وَسَلَفًا وَأَجْرًا

Allahummaj’alhu lana faratan wa salafan wa ajran

O Allah, make him/her for us a predecessor, a forerunner, and a source of reward.
