Dua for Crossing the Sirat – Supplications for the Hereafter

The Sirat is the bridge established over Hellfire that every person must attempt to cross to reach Paradise. The speed and success of crossing depend on a person's deeds and Allah's mercy. While there is no single 'fixed' formula for the Sirat, the Prophet ﷺ and other prophets will be praying 'Allahumma sallim, sallim' (O Allah, grant safety, grant safety) on that day. Believers ask for firmness of their feet to avoid slipping.

رَبَّنَا أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا وَثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَنَا

Transliteration

Rabbana afrigh 'alayna sabran wa thabbit aqdamana.

Translation

Our Lord, pour upon us patience and make our feet firm.

Meaning and Explanation

This Quranic prayer asks for an abundance of patience and the stability of one's steps. In the context of the Hereafter, 'firmness of feet' is the ultimate requirement for successfully crossing the Sirat into Jannah.

During daily prayers, in the late-night supplications, and whenever reflecting on the trials of the Day of Judgment.

How to Recite

Recite it with focus on the word 'thabbit' (make firm), asking Allah to never let your faith or your steps waver.

Important Notes

This is Quran 2:250. True safety on the Sirat in the afterlife is earned by staying on the Straight Path of Islam in this life. No ritual repetition count is mentioned in the Sunnah for this specific purpose.
