Dua Before Wudu

Meaning and Explanation

Beginning wudu with the name of Allah reflects remembrance before an act of purification and preparation for worship.

How to Recite

Say Bismillah, make the intention for wudu in your heart, then perform wudu according to the established Sunnah.

Important Notes

The reports concerning saying Bismillah before wudu have scholarly discussion. Many scholars consider it recommended. Do not attribute lengthy duas for washing each individual limb to the Prophet ﷺ without reliable evidence.

Ashhadu an lā ilāha illallāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, wa ashhadu anna Muḥammadan ʿabduhu wa rasūluh.

I bear witness that there is no god except Allah alone, without partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.
