Dua Before Leaving Home | Authentic Leaving House Dua

Leaving home is an everyday activity where Muslims place their full trust in Allah and seek His protection, guidance, and care throughout their journey. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us a powerful supplication to recite upon stepping out.

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ

Transliteration

Bismillahi, tawakkaltu 'alallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.

Translation

In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah; there is no power and no strength except through Allah.

Meaning and Explanation

This supplication expresses complete Tawakkul (reliance upon Allah) while acknowledging human helplessness without His divine strength and guidance.

When to Recite

Step out of the house with your right foot and recite it immediately upon leaving.

How to Recite

Recite it clearly and consciously, reflecting upon reliance on Allah.

Important Notes

It is sunnah to step out with the right foot first while reciting this dua.

Benefits

According to the Hadith, whoever recites this upon leaving home is answered: 'You are guided, defended, and protected,' and Shaytan moves away from them.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika an adilla aw udalla, aw azilla aw uzalla, aw azlima aw uzlama, aw ajhala aw yujhala 'alayy.

O Allah, I seek refuge in You lest I stray or be led astray, or lapse or be caused to lapse, or oppress or be oppressed, or act ignorantly or be treated ignorantly.
