Dua Before Eating

Learn the authentic Islamic supplication to recite before starting a meal.

Islam teaches believers to remember Allah before eating. Saying 'Bismillah' before enjoying food is a blessed Sunnah that brings barakah (blessings) to the meal and expresses gratitude to the Provider.

Meaning and Explanation

The phrase 'Bismillah' acknowledges Allah before eating, recognizing that sustenance comes solely from Him and seeking His blessing upon the food.

When to Recite

Immediately before taking the first bite or drink.

How to Recite

Say 'Bismillah' aloud or silently before eating, eat with your right hand, and eat from what is directly in front of you.

Important Notes

If you forget to say Bismillah at the start, recite 'Bismillahi awwalahu wa akhirahu' as soon as you remember during the meal.
