بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ يَا أَيُّهَا الْمُزَّمِّلُ ۝ ١

O thou enwrapped!

قُمِ اللَّيْلَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا ۝ ٢

Stay up the night long save a little -

نِصْفَهُ أَوِ انْقُصْ مِنْهُ قَلِيلًا ۝ ٣

A half thereof, or abate a little thereof,

أَوْ زِدْ عَلَيْهِ وَرَتِّلِ الْقُرْآنَ تَرْتِيلًا ۝ ٤

Or increase thereto. And intone the Qur'an with a measured intontion. s

إِنَّا سَنُلْقِي عَلَيْكَ قَوْلًا ثَقِيلًا ۝ ٥

Verily We! anon We shall cast upon thee a weighty word.

إِنَّ نَاشِئَةَ اللَّيْلِ هِيَ أَشَدُّ وَطْئًا وَأَقْوَمُ قِيلًا ۝ ٦

Verily the rising by night! it is most curbing and most conducive to right speech.

إِنَّ لَكَ فِي النَّهَارِ سَبْحًا طَوِيلًا ۝ ٧

Verily there is for thee by day occupation prolonged.

وَاذْكُرِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ وَتَبَتَّلْ إِلَيْهِ تَبْتِيلًا ۝ ٨

And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion.

رَبُّ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ فَاتَّخِذْهُ وَكِيلًا ۝ ٩

Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee.

وَاصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَاهْجُرْهُمْ هَجْرًا جَمِيلًا ۝ ١٠

And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure.

وَذَرْنِي وَالْمُكَذِّبِينَ أُولِي النَّعْمَةِ وَمَهِّلْهُمْ قَلِيلًا ۝ ١١

And let Me alone with the beliers, owners of ease: and respite thou them a little.

إِنَّ لَدَيْنَا أَنْكَالًا وَجَحِيمًا ۝ ١٢

Verily with us are heavy fetters and Scorch.

وَطَعَامًا ذَا غُصَّةٍ وَعَذَابًا أَلِيمًا ۝ ١٣

And a food that choketh and a torment afflictive.

يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ الْأَرْضُ وَالْجِبَالُ وَكَانَتِ الْجِبَالُ كَثِيبًا مَهِيلًا ۝ ١٤

On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth.

إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا إِلَيْكُمْ رَسُولًا شَاهِدًا عَلَيْكُمْ كَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ رَسُولًا ۝ ١٥

Verily We! We have sent Unto you an apostle, a witness over you, even as We sent Unto Fir'awn an apostle.

فَعَصَىٰ فِرْعَوْنُ الرَّسُولَ فَأَخَذْنَاهُ أَخْذًا وَبِيلًا ۝ ١٦

Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold.

فَكَيْفَ تَتَّقُونَ إِنْ كَفَرْتُمْ يَوْمًا يَجْعَلُ الْوِلْدَانَ شِيبًا ۝ ١٧

How then, if ye disbelieve, shall ye escape, on a Day which shall make children grey-headed.

السَّمَاءُ مُنْفَطِرٌ بِهِ ۚ كَانَ وَعْدُهُ مَفْعُولًا ۝ ١٨

And the heaven shall be split there in. His promise needs must be fulfilled.

إِنَّ هَٰذِهِ تَذْكِرَةٌ ۖ فَمَنْ شَاءَ اتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِ سَبِيلًا ۝ ١٩

Verily this is an admonition; let him therefore, who will, choose a way Unto his Lord.

Verily thy Lord knoweth that thou stayest up near two- thirds of the night, Or half thereof, or a third thereof, and also a party of those who are with thee. And Allah measureth the night and the day. He knoweth that ye can compute it not, He hath relented toward you. Wherefore recite now of the Qur'an, so much as is easy. He knoweth that there will be among you some diseased, and others shall be travelling in the land seeking grace of Allah, and others shall be fighting in the way of Allah. Wherefore recite thereof so much as is easy; and establish the prayer and give the poor-rate and lend Unto Allah a goodly loan. Whatsoever good ye shall send on for your souls, ye shall find it with Allah, better and greater in reward. And ask forgiveness of Allah; verily Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

Surah Al Muzammil Translation in English by Abdul Majid Daryabadi

Surah Al Muzammil( سورة المزمل ) - Translation of Quran in English by Abdul Majid Daryabadi ( Daryabadi)

The translation of the Qurʻan into modern languages has always been a difficult issue in Islamic theology. Because Muslims revere the Qurʻan as miraculous and inimitable (iʻjaz al-Qurʻan), they argue that the Qurʻanic text should not be isolated from its true form to another language or written form, at least not without keeping the Arabic text with it. Furthermore, an Arabic word, like a Hebrew or Aramaic word, may have a range of meanings depending on the context – a feature present in all Semitic languages, when compared to English, Latin, and Romance languages – making an accurate translation even more difficult

According to Islamic theology, the Qurʻan is a revelation very specifically in Arabic, and so it should only be recited in Quranic Arabic. Translations into other languages are necessarily the work of humans and so, according to Muslims, no longer possess the uniquely sacred character of the Arabic original. .

The task of translation of the Qurʻan is not an easy one; some native Arab speakers will confirm that some Qurʻanic passages are difficult to understand even in the original Arabic script. A part of this is the innate difficulty of any translation; in Arabic, as in other languages, a single word can have a variety of meanings. There is always an element of human judgement involved in understanding and translating a text. This factor is made more complex by the fact that the usage of words has changed a great deal between classical and modern Arabic. As a result, even Qurʻanic verses which seem perfectly clear to native Arab speakers accustomed to modern vocabulary and usage may not represent the original meaning of the verse.

The original meaning of a Qurʻanic passage will also be dependent on the historical circumstances of the prophet Muhammad's life and early community in which it originated. Investigating that context usually requires a detailed knowledge of hadith and sirah, which are themselves vast and complex texts. This introduces an additional element of uncertainty which cannot be eliminated by any linguistic rules of translation.
